Not My Reality Girl

My clothes look like they very much need ironing in these photos, sorry about that! It's just been a long day.
The good weather has gone away, so I had to take these photos in the rain! It wasn't too bad, I managed to beat the heavy downpour. One day I will have to show you my "tripod" and shooting situations.
Anyway, sale season is upon us, so of course I couldn't help buy spend a little. Both items worn above are from Zara. The trousers are a late birthday present from my mum. They're a heavy linen material, and I love them. I seem to have a thing for wider legged trousers at the moment. Right now they are £22.99 down from £29.99. I was tempted to wait and see if the price would so lower, but this colour seems to be going fast.
So many creases! Sometimes I wish I could borrow the steamer from work.
The blouse is so lovely and soft. It has a bit of a batwing, which I rather like. I'm hoping to go to the big Manchester Zara this week so I can get a nice interview blouse. I have a few, but I want a blouse that isn't sheer, which seems to be a lot to ask for these days. I wore a Primark tank top under the above blouse.

There's No Better Way I'm Sure

A few days ago I spotted this tag on Amy's (A Little Boat Sailing) blog and knew that it would be a good tag for me. I'm a book lover through and through. I love a good book, and have done since reading my first Jacqueline Wilson book when I was 8 years old (which I think was Bad Girls). My to read pile is actually taller than me!

1. What was the last book you marked as 'Read'?
Rescued by Bailey Bradford. I actually didn't like this book that much. It was recommended to me and it was a bit of a let down. I will warn anyone who wants to check it out; it's a trashy romance.

2. What are you 'Currently Reading'?
I actually have 15 books on my 'currently reading' shelf. I used to only ever read 1 book at a time, but now I have to have at least 5 books on the go at once to stay interested. The book I'm most enjoying is Flatland by E.A. Abbott. The narrator of the book is from a 2D planet, and he somehow goes to a 3D world (such as our own). So the book is about his experiences, and how the 3D world has altered his view on everything.

3. What was the last book you marked as 'To-Read'?
The Unbearable Lightness Of Being by Milan Kundera. I bought this from work last year and it's been waiting for me to read it since.

4. What book do you plan to read next?
I'm trying to finish my 'currently reading' list first! But probably Shield Of Winter by Nalini Singh. It was released earlier this month, and it part of a series that I love.

5. Do you use the star rating system?
Yes. As soon as I've finished a book I'll give it a rating. I don't review books that often though.

6. Are you doing a 2014 reading challenge?
Yes, it's the same challenge I always set myself. Which is to read at least 12 books in a year. I'm currently behind on 3, when I should be on at least 6.

7. Do you have a wishlist?
Yes. Not on Goodreads, but on Amazon. My brother actually bought me a few books off of it for my birthday.

8. What book do you want to buy next?
I'd rather not think about it. I have enough books at the moment.

9. Do you have any favorite quotes? Would you like to share a few?

This question is too hard. I honestly don't have an answer. I've not found an author who I've enjoyed every book they've written (that doesn't feel like a proper sentence).

I don't think so. I've been invited to a few though.

Take The Time For You

Every so often I look for clothes on Amazon, and I usually give up after about 10 minutes because it's just like a huge jumble. A few months back I was able to find the above Motel dress for just under £15 (brand new), and I just had to have it. I'm a sucker for a mandarin collar.
I love my leggings. I wear them far too often, but they turn a slightly inappropriate outfit into something I can wear for work, which is always great. H&M are my favourite brand for leggings; I always have two pairs on the go (one slightly thicker than the other). They're comfy, and not too expensive. You can get some cheaper from Primark, but the quality is so bad they barely last through a couple wears.

The World Keeps Turning

If money and time were no object I'd travel the world and study social anthropology. I'd drink unmentionable amounts of caffeine (because I totally do not do that now), and take photographs every where I went. And at the end of a hard months travelling I would go home again, to my beautifully decorated flat.
Alas, a lack of money always gets in the way. Or at least a fear of money gets in the way. Money does scare me quite a bit, especially when thinking about the future. Sometimes when I remember that money is just for the living I'll buy myself something really nice. Like my cameras, or makeup, or books.
I'm nosey as sin, so studying people and culture would be a dream come true. It's fascinating. People are fascinating. I love knowing why people do things. How things came about. What the point of everything is. I'm like an inquisitive toddler sometimes. I was brought up between three different cultures, and they all sort of melding together to make me who I am. The majority of my friends were split between two different cultural backgrounds when I was younger; one where religion was everything, and one where it was not. Now there's a lot of in between.
The world has so much to offer, and so do the people in it. There are always new things to learn, and do, and create. Just because someone else might be able to do it better doesn't mean you can't give it a try to. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.
Don't forget to wear sunscreen.

Don't Forget It

The weather has been so lovely recently, and it's made me want to go on adventures. Then it starts pouring down and I think maybe I should stay inside.

I bought this shirt last year in the Republic closing down sale (I beliebe Republic is now part of USC), and it's been a staple for me ever since. I was on a hunt for a shirt like this that would go with a pair of trousers that I'd bought, and I found this beauty in the mens section for £5. Can't go wrong. It's great to layer over vests and crop tops.

But You Pushed Me In

In just under two weeks one of my favourite TV shows will be back on the air - Rizzoli & Isles. One of my favourite parts of the show is the wardrobe of Dr Maura Isles. From Prada to Helmut Lang to Givenchy, Maura really knows her style.
In the scene from above Maura was wearing this gorgeous pair of Giuseppe Zanotti heels, until she stood in motor oil and changed into the Hunter wellies.

Mauras style is uber feminine, smart, and very expensive. I love the skirt worn above, I managed to find something similar (and cheaper) in Primark a few months ago.

I do like the other title character's (Jane Rizzoli) clothes as well, but Jane has a more sensible wardrobe of black trousers and plain tops. If anything I have some serious hair envy when it comes to Angie Harmon (aka Rizzoli).

I honestly cannot wait for the new season to start. Last year one of the actors from the show past away, so I'm wondering how that will be dealt with.

Nobody Likes You When You're 23

Tomorrow is my 23rd birthday, so today I met up with a friend for a little celebration (it is her birthday on Thursday). Although, it wasn't really a proper celebration, we did the same as we always do. Had coffee, and then mooched around town. I am proud of myself though; I only spent money on food and drink. I managed to avoid walking into Primark.
You might remember the trousers that I am wearing from the Spring Trends post I wrote a few months ago. Last week I finally bought them, and I do not regret it. I was going to wear a white blouse instead of the cardigan, but it was a little cold outside when I was leaving the house.
